There are idiots out there in the world. There are lots of racists spreading hate in the world. But we don’t need to take every video clip and develop an online attack posse.
Sure it is important to expose the issue but do we really need to start hunting down every idiot on social media platforms. People make mistakes and an environment is developing that people never have the opportunity to learn from them.
As things are so polarized, the person being attacked will find loyal support from others and become a celebrity to that community. Some people are hoping that they will go famous or viral.
Also, there is the risk that the wrong person will be exposed and it is almost impossible to retract that once the online rage machine has done its job.
I am not trying to justify or make excuses for these assholes. I just think we need to take a moment before rushing to attack.
I acknowledge now on January 8, 2021 that this hasn't aged well. I think there are certain situations that we need to use some restraint and others like the events of January 6th that are different. I mean this more as far as some individual actions that are stupid not being part of a planned group or activity that is looking to cause damage.
For example, those that were in Charlottesville or similar racist gatherings should be exposed. We need to look at the scenario and not just start a mob.
